How to Write a Resignation Letter in Ghana

Perhaps you are relocating, you want to change your career, you got a new job, you don’t like the work environment or you just want to quit to protect your mental health, whatever it is, you want to quit your job and you want to write a resignation letter. We will teach you how but there are a few things you need to know. It is not required to include in your letter the reason why you want to leave. You should not include complaints about the company or your co-workers, keep it brief and in a positive tone.

Below are the three steps you need to go through to write a good resignation letter.

Introduction

After addressing the letter to either your manager or human resource representative, begin the introduction by stating the position from which you are resigning, include the name of the company and the last day of work. The last day is usually two weeks from the date of the notice. Remember that this is an official document showing the end of employment, you need to submit this document after you have indicated your decision to leave in person or via email. Let the company know you are leaving before you submit the letter. They will need someone to replace you, hence the importance of notice.

Express Gratitude

Saying “Thank You” is very important, it shows how grateful you are for the opportunity given you to work at the company, for a certain number of years which should also be stated in your letter. You can include a few things you learned, which you are going to take with you. As stated above, keep it brief and write with a positive tone, the anger you are probably feeling, should not be put in the letter. Leave quietly.

Wrap Up

Let the company know that you are willing to do all it takes to make the transition successful. Don’t make empty promises. Wish the company well and end your letter with your name and signature.
