The University of Ghana is the oldest and largest public university in Ghana. Founded in 1948 as an affiliate College of the University of London, the University of Ghana run programs from the University of London until it became a full-time degree-awarding university in 1961.

On the global scale, the University of Ghana is one of the highest-ranking universities in Ghana and the entire African continent at large. But someone will ask how they have been able to stand the test of time and have become one of the best?

The answer to this question is that they are ranked on the global scale because of their courses, and the hard work of both the lecturers and the students.

In this regard, I am going to recommend to you some of the best undergraduate courses to study at the University of Ghana.

The courses at the University of Ghana is classified under the arts, business, physical and biological sciences, agriculture, engineering sciences, nuclear and allied sciences, and law.

Also, all these courses have been assigned a specific college and these are the Colleges of Humanities, Health Science, Basic and Applied Science, and Education.

In no particular order, below are some of the best undergraduate courses to study at the University of Ghana, Legon.

Bachelor of Law (LLB)

The University of Ghana is known to be one of the best undergraduate law Universities in Ghana. The University of Ghana Law School has some of the best law professors with years of experience in the field of law.

Occasionally, private and public legal practitioners are invited to give lectures to law students to equip them with the expert advice they need to become fully equipped lawyers after graduation.

Inside the law school, there is a court room where the law students get the chance to practice with their mates and professors before coming out. The University of Ghana law school has produced some of the best lawyers in the country.

Some of them include Lawyer Tsatsu Tsikata, Rt. Hon. Alban Kingsford Sumana Bagbin (Speaker of the Parliament of Ghana), Justice Yaw Appau of the Supreme Court of Ghana, Justice Sofia Akuffo (Former Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of Ghana) Justice Kwasi Anin-Yeboah (Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of Ghana), Hon. Bachelor of Arts (BA)

The Bachelor of Arts programme is the biggest undergraduate program at the University of Ghana. Over 40% of the entire University of Ghana student population are offering Bachelor of Arts.

With this programme, students are given three (3) arts courses to study in the first year. After successful completion of the first year, students are offered the opportunity to choose any of the two (2) courses and then stick with them for the rest of their stay in the school.

The student will choose whether to major in one and minor in the other or if the student can handle it, he/she can choose to major in both courses. This is an umbrella programme that comprises all the art courses in the school.

Some of the courses that are available for students to choose from including Spanish, English, Statistics, Math, Political Science, Economics, Geography, Chinese, Philosophy, Information Studies, Theater Arts, Psychology, etc.

If you wish to study any of the courses listed above, then you need to apply for the Bachelor of Arts programme.

Bachelor of Science in Business Administration

Just as the name suggests, this course entails all the business courses that are available for students to study at the University of Ghana. This course is under the University of Ghana Business School (UGBS), one of the biggest schools at the University of Ghana.

Some of the best business owners and experts are the lecturers who teach this course. Some of the courses you choose from the Business Administration Programme in Public Administration, Marketing, Banking & Finance, Accounting, etc.

This is my recommended course for students who would love to pursue a course in the field of business. The department of Marketing and Entrepreneurship nurtures the students with the prerequisite skills they need for the outside job market.

Bachelor of Science in Mathematical Science

Mathematics is known to be one of the most difficult subjects in the world. But in reality, Mathematics is one of the easiest subjects in the world.

As such, the University of Ghana BSc. Mathematical Science programme equips you with everything you need to know about the Mathematical Sciences. Whenever people hear of the Mathematical Science programme, all they think about is mathematics.

That is not entirely true, as the University of Ghana Mathematical Science course comprises of Mathematics, Computer Science, Statistics, Actuarial Science, and Biomathematics.

In level 100, you will be required to study almost all these subjects. But when you get to level 200, you will be required to choose the particular course you wish to gain a certificate in.

So, at level 200, you will choose from the following Mathematics, Computer Science, Statistics, Actuarial Science, and Biomathematics. So if you want to study any of the following, then you have to choose the Mathematical Science program.
