Minimum Entry Requirements for Asmission into the University of Education Winneba for 2019/2020 Academic year

All prospective applicant who wish to apply to the University of Education Winneba are to take note of the entry requirements of the University before applying for admission into the university. Below are the requirements for the various programmes the university offers

MINIMUM ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

These requirements are to be met in addition to the other programme-specific requirements

  1. BACHELOR PROGRAMMES

1. Senior High School (SHS) Certificate Holders

i. Must have at least, six (6) WASSCE passes including three (3) Core Subjects: English Language, Mathematics and Integrated Science or Social Studies, as well as

ii. Three (3) Electives in relevant subjects with the total aggregate of 36 or better.

iii. Must also satisfy Special Programme requirement(s) for programme(s) chosen.

2. School Certificate/GCE Holders

i. Five (5) credits at GCE “O” Level, including English Language and Mathematics as well as

ii. Two (2) “A” Level passes other than General Paper in relevant subjects

3. Diploma Holders

i. Must possess a Higher National Diploma or its equivalence from previous field or area of study.

ii. Full-Time applicants may pass an interview.

  1. DIPLOMA PROGRAMMES
  2. Diploma in Basic Education
  3. WASSCE Entry Requirement

Applicants must have Credit pass (A1-C6) in FIVE (5) subjects, comprising THREE (3) Core Subjects including English Language and Mathematics, and TWO (2) Elective Subjects relevant to the programme chosen.

B.Sc. MECHANICAL TECHNOLOGY EDUCATION

(REGULAR AND DISTANCE)

 Applicants must satisfy any one of the following:

  1. WASSCE HOLDERS – Applicants must have grade A1-C6 in three (3) core subjects which are English, Core mathematics and integrated science, and three elective subjects from the following: Automotive Mechanics, Elective Mathematics, Physics, Engineering Science, Chemistry, Technical Drawing, Applied Electricity, Electronics, Metalwork, and Welding.
  2. SSSCE HOLDERS – Applicants must have Grade D or better in three core subjects which are: English Language, Core Mathematics and Integrated Science, and three (3) Electives from the following: Automotive Mechanics, Elective Mathematics, Physics, Engineering Science, Chemistry, Technical Drawing, Applied Electricity, Electronics, Metalwork, Welding
  3. GCE ADVANCED LEVEL HOLDERS – Applicants must have at least grade D or better in three Science subjects. They must also have credit passes (grade 6) in five (5) subjects in GCE ‘O’ Level including English, Mathematics and Science.
  4. PART III HOLDERS: Applicants must be holders of
  1. Motor Vehicle Technicians (MVT) Part III certificate
  2. Mechanical Engineering Technician (MET) Part III certificate

All part III applicants must pass an interview

  1. HND HOLDERS: Applicants must have a Higher National Diploma (HND) Certificate in Mechanical Engineering or Agric Engineering with specialty in any one of the following options:

a. Automotive Mechanics

b. Plant

c. Production

d. Refrigeration

e. Agricultural Mechanization

All HND applicants must pass an interview.

  1. MATURE APPLICANTS: Applicants who want to enter as mature candidates must not be less than twenty-five (25) years old by August of the year of enrolment and must be holders of any of the following qualifications:

Motor Vehicle Technician Part II, Mechanical Technician Part II,Advanced City and Guilds Certificate in Automotive or Mechanical Engineering, Teachers’ Diploma A (Technical Option), WASSCE OR SSSCE holders who do not qualify for direct, National Board for Professional and Technician Examinations (NABPTEX) Certificate with credit passes in SIX (6) subjects comprising THREE (3) core subjects (English Language, Mathematics, Integrated Science) and THREE (3)elective subjects in relevant area.

Please Note the following:

  1.  All mature applicants must pass an entrance examination comprising a Subject Area Test (SAT) and a General Aptitude Test (GAT)
  2. All applicants must indicate whether they are opting for REGULAR or DISTANCE Mode

B.Sc. AUTOMOTIVE TECHNOLOGY EDUCATION

(REGULAR AND DISTANCE)

 Applicants must satisfy any one of the following:

  1.   3. GCE ADVANCED LEVEL HOLDERS – Applicants must have at least grade D or better in three Science subjects. They must also have credit passes (grade 6) in five (5) subjects in GCE ‘O’ Level including English, Mathematics and Science.
  4. PART III HOLDERS: Applicants must be holders of Electrical Engineering Technicians (EET) Part III certificate

All EET Part III applicants must pass an interview

  1. HND HOLDERS: Applicants must have a Higher National Diploma (HND) Certificate in Electrical/Electronics with specialty in any one of the following options:

a. Power

b. Telecommunication

Successful HND applicants would be placed at Level 200. However, those with a class below 2nd Lower will be placed at level 100

  1. MATURE APPLICANTS: Applicants who want to enter as mature candidates must not be less than twenty-five (25) years old by August of the year of enrolment and must be holders of any of the following qualifications
  2. Electrical Engineering Technician Part II

OR

  1. Advanced City and Guilds Certificate in Electrical Engineering

OR

  1. Electrical Installation Work, Course C

OR

  1. Teachers Certificates A (Technical Option)

OR

  1.  WASSCE OR SSSCE holders who do not qualify for direct entry but are 25 years of age

B.Sc. CONSTRUCTION TECHNOLOGY EDUCATION

 Applicants must satisfy any one of the following:

WASSCE HOLDERS – Applicants must have grade A1-C6 in three (3) core subjects which are English, Core mathematics and Integrated science, and three elective subjects from the following: Building Construction, Wood work, Elective Mathematics, Physics, Engineering Science, Chemistry, Technical Drawing, Applied Electricity.
  1. SSSCE HOLDERS – Applicants must have Grade D or better in three core subjects which are: English Language, Core Mathematics and Integrated Science, and three (3) Electives from the following: Building Construction, Wood work, Elective Mathematics, Physics, Engineering Science, Chemistry, Technical Drawing, Applied Electricity.
  2. GCE ADVANCED LEVEL HOLDERS–Applicants must have at least grade D or better in three Science subjects. They must also have credit passes (grade 6) in five (5) subjects in GCE ‘O’ Level including English, Mathematics and Science.
  3. PART III HOLDERS: Applicants must be holders of Construction Technician Part III certificate
  4. HND HOLDERS: Applicants must have a Higher National Diploma (HND) Certificate in Building Construction or Civil Engineering.

Successful HND applicants would be placed at Level 200. However, those with a class below 2nd Lower will be placed at level 100

  1. MATURE APPLICANTS: Applicants who want to enter as mature candidates must not be less than twenty-five (25) years old by August of the year of enrolment and must be holders of any of the following qualifications
  1. Advanced City and Guilds Certificate in Block work and Concreting
  2. Diploma in Basic Education (Colleges of Education)
  3. Teachers Certificates A (Technical Option)
  4.  WASSCE OR SSSCE holders who do not qualify for direct entry but are 25 years of age.

Please Note the following:

  1.  All mature applicants must pass an entrance examination comprising a Subject Area Test (SAT) and a General Aptitude Test (GAT)
  2. All applicants must indicate whether they are opting for REGULAR or DISTANCE Mode

B.Sc. WOOD TECHNOLOGY EDUCATION

(REGULAR AND DISTANCE)

 Applicants must satisfy any one of the following:

  1. WASSCE HOLDERS – Applicants must have grade A1-C6 in three (3) core subjects which are English, Core mathematics and Integrated science, and three elective subjects from the following: Wood work, Furniture Design, Elective Mathematics, Physics, Engineering Science, Chemistry, Technical Drawing.
  2. SSSCE HOLDERS – Applicants must have Grade D or better in three core subjects which are: English Language, Core Mathematics and Integrated Science, and three (3) Electives from the following: Wood work, Furniture Design, Elective Mathematics, Physics, Engineering Science, Chemistry, Technical Drawing.
  3. GCE ADVANCED LEVEL HOLDERS–Applicants must have at least grade D or better in three Science subjects. They must also have credit passes (grade 6) in five (5) subjects in GCE ‘O’ Level including English, Mathematics and Science.
  4. PART III HOLDERS: Applicants must be holders of Construction Technician Part III certificate.

All part III applicants must pass an interview

Applicants must have must have passed in three (3) in their respective TVET area and two core subjects (NAPTEX) including English and Mathematics.

  1. Other Diploma Programmes Entry Requirement
  2. WASSCE Entry Requirement
  1. Six passes (A1 – D7) in all subjects, including English Language and Mathematics; and
  2. Must possess a minimum of C6 in any three (3) of the passes relevant to the area of specialization.
  3. SSSCE Entry Requirement
  1. Six passes (A-D) in all subjects, including English Language and Mathematics; and
  2. At least three (3) of the passes must be relevant to the area of specialization.

Mature Applicants

i. Must be at least, 25 years by September 1, 2019.

ii. Should have a minimum of a GCE/SSSCE/WASSCE Certificate/ DBS or RSA certificate.

iii. Must pass the UEW Entrance Exam in General Aptitude Test (GAT) and Subject Area Test (SAT)
