3 steps to register Ghana Card online and get it instantly at NIA Office
The National Identification Authority is giving Ghanaians the chance to register for the new Ghana Card online from the comfort of their homes according to Mfidie.com – Ghana’s Biggest Tech Blog.
In a new post on the NIA Facebook page, they shared the link to the new online process for registering/applying for a new Ghana Card.
Although the mass registration is on-going, the NIA is doing the registration of individuals interested in booking an appointment for through their new online portal – https://register.nia.gov.gh/
What is the Ghana Card?
The Ghana Card is a secure and multi-purpose card that will establish the biometric identity of the bonafide holder for verification and authentication of electronic and physical transactions to be conducted in the public and private services space.
How was the Ghana Card Application done before the introduction of the online process?
Before this new way of applying for the Ghana Card, Ghanaians had to go cue at the various centres where mass registration was taking place.
This led to people sleeping at the registration centres and although cards were supposed to be issued instantly, this was almost never the case.
Centres could only register between 60 and 90 Ghanaians a day and this seemed to be very unsustainable.
Some people were asked to wait for a lot of days before receiving their cards and even when the day of the collection came, there was another postponement of the time. A lot of people were generally not happy with the mass registration procedure.
This supposed “compulsory” Ghana Card. For almost two weeks I go and join an endless long cue and it never gets to my turn; and the registrars cut off saying they’ve got the required number for today.
