My Ghanaian Mother’s Tips for Hair Growth
It is every African woman’s dream to grow long, healthy, and beautiful hair because it is said that a woman’s hair is her glory.
That is why I asked my Ghanaian mom, who is at age 50 but still has strong hair to give me her secret, a few tips to grow my hair. People say it is impossible to grow your hair to a certain length, but it is not true.
It will also interest you to know that some people naturally have long and healthy hair. It’s in their genes, but if you happen to be one of those people who struggle to grow your hair, I hope these tips will do you some good.
Use Aloe Vera
On wash day, do not forget aloe vera. This plant contains proteolytic enzymes that help with hair growth. It also helps keep your scalp clean and healthy. The plant also contains vitamins A, C, and E which helps with cell turnover.
All you need is to cut your aloe very and take it along with you to the salon. After washing, let your hairstylist apply the mucilage (slimy juice) into your hair. Dry your hair afterward. It is very helpful. For strong, long, and healthy hair, use aloe vera.
Rice water has also been tested to make your hair grow, so you can prepare a small mixture and put it in a spray bottle.
The mucilage from the aloe vera and the rice water. Preparing the rice water isn’t difficult, all you need to do is to soak one cup of rice in two to three glasses of water, allow to sit for 30 minutes, and strain the rice.
Mix the water and aloe Vera mucilage, you can add essential oil and fragrance as well. Spray into your hair twice a day and you will see results in a few weeks.
Braid your Hair Regularly
Braiding can allow your hair to grow. Do you know why? When you leave your hair as it is, it breaks, meaning, your hair can be growing from the roots but the tip will be breaking, but if you braid your hair, you protect it from breakage, hence allowing it to grow.
And if you braid, learn to keep it on for a month, or a month and a few weeks. Braiding and losing it a few weeks later will not accelerate growth. Your hair will still break. Braid your hair regularly and you will see some results.
Even if you don’t have enough money to braid your hair, simple threading will do, as long as it is done neatly for you to take it out. This is very helpful too, especially for those with natural hair.
Wash Your Hair Regularly
Did you know that dirt eats into your hair? And that causes your hair to rot out. Washing your hair regularly is essential.
At least, twice a month, do not give way for dirt to eat into your hair. Put your braided hair in a bun and put a bonnet over it before you sleep, remove your wig cap at night and let air pass through your hair. When doing a type of work that allows dust particles into your hair, cover it. Your hair and dirt are not friends.
A dirty hair doesn’t grow. Use the best products to wash your hair. Select a shampoo and conditioner that will be good for your hair and avoid ones with harsh chemicals that would be bad for your hair. Look out for ingredients that you may be allergic to as well.
For those who perm their hair, the box cream is always better. It is soothing on the scalp and helps with hair growth.
Always choose the right products for your hair. Try different ones if possible, you might never know the ones good for you if you never try. Styling gel will rip your hair off in the long term. Don’t use it excessively.
Find and Use a Hair Pomade that Contains Cannabis
Did that surprise you? It shouldn’t because you don’t have to worry about getting high. You will not get high.
The herb contains cannabis sativa which has anti-inflammatory properties and essential fatty acids which help stimulate hair growth.
Find a hair cream that contains a little bit of Indian hemp. I am not advising you to mix your concoction to make the cream. Visit the shop, there are hair creams that contain Indian hemp.
One is Kuza Indian Hemp Cream, very good for scanty hair, repairs hair, and helps it grow.
Takeaway
You can grow long hair even if it’s not in your genes. All you need to do is use the right products and braid your hair regularly.
Apart from excessive usage of styling gel on your hair, don’t pull your hair up in a ponytail all the time, else you won’t have any edges. Your hair will pull out.
Visit the hairdressing shop regularly. When you decide to keep your hair for a while, apply the best hair pomade. And remember, your hair and dirt aren’t best friends.
