Current Ministers in Ghana

The list of new cabinet ministers was submitted by the president of the Republic, Nana Addo Dankwa on 21st January 2021, by the 1992 constitution of Ghana. Some of the ministers who served in his first term have maintained their positions while others have been promoted to be substantive ministers, an elevation made in appreciation by President.

There have been some new faces as well. 7 other ministries have also been merged and absorbed into other ministries or government agencies. There are 43 ministers, 27 cabinet ministers, and 16 regional ministers.

The individuals who are to be responsible for the efficiency of the agencies that are within their portfolio are the Ministers. They are to meet with other designated ministers to discuss and negotiate the interest of the government in national affairs. Each ministry has a comprehensive scope of what they do and plans to do in years to come.

Each of these ministers ask themselves how their sector is doing, what they can do to improve upon it, and what has changed over the years? Some of these ministers have done such great jobs over the year. For instance, the minister for information, Hon. Kojo Oppong Nkrumah who has given wide and comprehensive coverage and information when the Corona Virus pandemic stretched its wings to Ghana, so has the ministry of health.

And they are not the only ones, education, finance, social protection, and energy have also been on their toes. Many Ghanaians, especially the youth, university graduates will appreciate it if Hon. Ignatius Baffour will step up his employment game as well, since the unemployment rate is going high, having a degree nowadays, does not mean anything because there are no jobs.

The ministry of environment, science, and technology has to prioritize the need for developing our covid- 19 vaccines, but do we have the facilities? What about the scientists and technical know-how?

What about national security? How do we investigate crimes and keep the peace in the country? Critically considering some of these things, it is quite evident that we are lacking in many of these sectors. We only saw that the health ministry existed, or is working when the pandemic struck. Before that, the health system was/is still bad. Some communities do not have hospitals or clinics and equipment, health professionals are not being paid satisfactorily.

Are things going to change with the new ministers we have now? What new projects will they take on to make a change?
