University of Cape Coast (UCC) popularly known as Cape Vars is one of the leading names in the tertiary education sector in Ghana. Located in the former capital of Ghana and the heart of the Central Region, Cape Coast, UCC is the light of the coast.

Aside from the name that the University of Cape Coast has, it is one of the best public universities in Ghana. It is known by many as one of the most disciplined universities in Ghana that train graduates for the outside job market.

Cape Vars was established in the year 1962 out of a dire need for highly qualified and skilled manpower in education. It started as a public institution to train graduate teachers for the second cycle institutions (Senior High School).

And clearly, the University of Cape Coast (UCC) has been able to achieve exactly that. In Ghana, over 50% of the teachers at the various secondary schools are all graduates of the University of Cape Coast (UCC).

Over the years, UCC has been providing global leaders, especially in the educational field. Aside from the education courses, they also train doctors, health professionals, lawyers, businessmen.

One of such people is the 2020 running mate for His Excellency John Dramani Mahama, Prof Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang.

All the academic programmes of the University are vested in its nine (9) faculties and categorized under five (5) Colleges.

These are the Faculty of Law, School of Business, Faculty of Law, School of Agriculture, School of Biological Science, School of Physical Science, School of Medicine, School of Nursing & Midwifery, School of Allied Health Science, College of Education Studies, and College of Distance Education.

In no particular order, below are some of the best undergraduate courses to study at the University of Cape Coast (UCC).

B.Ed. Early Childhood Education

The Bachelor of Education course in Early Childhood education offered by the University of Cape Coast is one of the best in the country. With this course, teachers are trained on how to teach children in their early stages.

In the olden days, this course was not studied by many people but these days, it has begun to gain prominence. During the closure of schools, most parents were at home and required trained teachers in the early childhood education sector.

This program is one of the best courses to study at Cape Vars if you love teaching children. Upon completion, you can choose to go either the public or the private sector.

Bachelor of Commerce (Accounting)

The Bachelor of Commerce (Accounting) is one of the best business courses to read at the University of Cape Coast. Mostly, people confuse the Bachelor of Commerce (Accounting) with the Bachelor of Education in Accounting.

Although all these two (2) courses are accounting, one of them is aimed at potential accounting teachers and the other one is for people who wish to work as accountants. The latter is for students who wish to teach and the former is for those who wish to work as accountants (outside the classroom).

Doctor of Optometry (OD)

University of Cape Coast (UCC) is one of the best schools to study the Doctor of Optometry program in Ghana. Although other
institutions run this program, Cape Vars is one of the best.

The lecturers who teach this course are well trained and experienced optometrist with years of experience in the field of optometry. If your dream is to study at the University of Cape Coast (UCC) and you also have a passion for optometry, I will urge you to study this course.

In Ghana, the number of optometrists is very few and if you have plans of getting employed in the health sector, then I think you might consider the Doctor of Optometry (OD) course offered by the University of Cape Coast.

Bachelor of Laws (LLB)

The University of Cape Coast Law School is undoubtedly one of the best in the country.

Usually, people think of the University of Ghana and Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA) when we are talking about the law but little do they know about the University of Cape Coast Law School.

If you want to study at Cape Vars, then I will recommend their LLB course for you to study and you will never regret it.
